  1. I use chewbacca in my arena team. I run Chewbacca lead, Talia, Leia, Ewok Elder, and Vader. Sounds nuts but the base health of these characters with the bonus 50 defense plus the added bonus heals and damage multipliers makes them solid. I have them all at seven star minus Chewbacca and the Elder but they can manage 100+. All in all, I see no downside to Chewbacca if hes moded and geared.

  2. I love Chewy!! I see people have mixed feelings about him as well . Chewy is needed for every team . He is a must have ! Everyone gets him at the start of the game . Although I see people complain about his taunt .. Atleast he has one . I am not planning to replace him with ST Han or Poe. I just couldn’t do that to Chewy!

    5
  3. I haven’t used Chewie in a while since he starts to be less useful at later levels (around 60) but he is pretty useful in raids with the ewok team.

Chewie and the ewok scout both have a chance to reduce turn meter with their basic attacks.

Ewok elder has a 60% chance to regain 50% turn meter and give half that to other ewok.

Teebo’s basic removes 75% turn meter if he’s stealthed and he has a move that gives him stealth for 3 turns. His leader also gives everyone a 55% to stealth at the beginning of their turn and a 25% chance to gain 25% turn meter.

Chirpa gains 35% turn meter if the enemy has more than 50% turn meter and he has an ability that has everyone on the team attack with their basic attacks.

All together this leads to a lot of turn denial against the rancor, letting you get a decent number of attacks in before the enrage counter runs out.

It is worth pointing out however, that turn reduction doesn’t seem to work against him when he’s trapped under the gate.

  4. Chewbacca is the best tank with a taunt, not too long, has a healing ability that adds max health 100% of the time at least 6 and has the health and armor to stand up against even the strongest foes. He’s a little slow, but definitely worth having in any squad.

    5
  5. Coulf someone pls describe chewbacca’s leader ability, what it means in fact plus 50 defense ? Could someone please give an example ?

    4
    • When Chewie is your leader, your allies get +50 defense and have a 50% chance to gain defense up when attacked.

      0
    • Peter Suleiman

It means 50 points gets added on to their defense total. If luke skywalker has a 200 defense it’s 250 now, if count dooku has a 300 defense its 350 now. Each character has different speed, health, etc, etc.

      0
      • And that makes complete sense.. or it would if there was a visible defense stat. I don’t see one, is that a calculated stat?

  6. Chewbacca is the key to my Scoundrel Team in PvP. My team consists of:

Lando (Leader) – farmable in cantina battles
Chewbacca – also farmable in cantina battles
    Greedo – PvP shipments
    Admiral Ackbar – PvP Shipments
    Luminara – Galatic War shipments

Greedo and Lando are in the team for max damage while Chewbacca taunts and absorbs damage while Greedo and Lando do the dirty work. If Sidious, Vader, Kylo Ren apply determental effects or healing immunity to Chewbacca then Ackbar wipes them away and my team is full health again (totally taking away the opponents 1st turn). Then if the team’s health starts getting low, in comes Luminara for maximum healing while Ackbar provides additional turns to the heavy hitters with his special ability. My entire team can last 3 turns and everyone still be alive. As long as you take out the enemy’s character who inflicts healing immunity on Chewbacca rather early in the battle then you will win frequently in PvP.

Overall I’ll give in a 4*. His attack is low but he makes up for it with his massive health. He’s vulnerable to Gui Gon’s “Humbling Blow” however so I recommend making Gui Gon one of your first priorities if you’re paired up against him. I find him extremely useful in Galactic War as well. I find him worth investing in.

    4
    • I like the ackbar idea. Might fix my losing streak. Lately Chewbacca can’t survive. Probably since I bumped him to lvl 62 when my team’s at 66 minimum. His gear is lacking too

  7. Summary: A staple Light-Side Tank, but which loses effectiveness on higher levels (60+)

    Pros:
    – He’s the best Tank you can have when lower levels
    – Self Heal and a Taunt with health bonus makes him survive much longer. This is specially good on PvE and GW
    – Has an ok life pool albeit a bit disappoint armor (although this changes when he’s leader)
    – Basic attack has a chance to reduce turn meter on the enemy
    – Leader ability is a good for defense-focused moments
    – Above par shards farming

    Cons:
    – Basic attack isn’t the worst, but still unimpressive
    – Taunt lasts for 1 turn only
    – He’s slow for PvP

    Final considerations:
He’s not an awful Tank, but on higher levels you have better taunters such as Han and Poe. His self healing and basic attack turn meter reductions are very welcomed. If possible I’d give him 3.5*

    3
    • I don’t see his 1-turn taunt as a downside. I like having the option of a tank with high hit points that can absorb a bunch of damage for a single turn, and then the taunt goes away and the rest of the team or another tank begins absorbing damage.

The problem I run into with Stormtrooper Han (I presume Poe has the same problem, though I don’t use him) is that his taunt lasts a really long time (3 turns) and if he gets hit by Sidious’s healing immunity right after he taunts, it can be difficult keeping him alive through the rest of his taunt, even with Barriss helping.

No such problem with Clone Wars Chewbacca, since his taunt goes away after a single turn and either the rest of the team can step in and (hopefully) absorb some damage, or another tank (such as the aforementioned Stormtrooper Han) can step in and taunt while Clone Wars Chewbacca’s health is low and I wait for his healing immunity to wear off.

My biggest complaint with Clone Wars Chewbacca is his speed, which is incredibly slow. Not only does this mean that basically EVERYONE on both sides will take their turn before him, but also that when my opponent uses him to taunt and any of my turn-reduction stuff gets applied, it only serves to extend his taunt even longer. I suppose the 1-turn taunt negatively impacts me on defense, but since I use 2 tanks (Han and Chewie), I guess it really doesn’t apply since they both usually taunt at the same time to begin with.

    • Han? Seriously? But buddy, I wish I read your review before I replaced Ventriss with Chewbacca. Now I gotta replace both. With not one viable replacement.

  8. Bread and butter character for GW above lvl 60 play. He’s also one of the easier characters to 7* outside shipments. Those who are berating him are talking only about arenas and he’s not as bad as they lead you to believe.

He has a solid heal and his taunt’s -1 cooldown at lvl 6 makes him a taunt spammer when you need it instead of having a character that dies early in a match. Han and Poe die in later GWs BECAUSE of their taunt. They’re damage soaking for 2-3 turns is an advantage in Arenas because you have the enemy focus fire on them instead of your glass cannons. In GW, you can’t afford a character that is so 1 dimensional with bad or no heals. They can easily die in one match. Then you’re either without a tank or have to sub in another.

Chewie, on the other hand, takes all the damage on his turn 1, heals up for turn 2, and the damage starts getting spread to the rest of your team where AI is not always smart enough to retain focus on one character. When he’s ready to taunt again he’s at solid health, Lumi or JC’s heal actually heals more than one character, and you end the match with an intact tank, an intact team and are ready to do it all over again. You can’t ask for a better tank in GW than one you can use over and over and over.

As for arena players saying they leave him for last? They’re not facing a geared and fully upgraded Chewie. You can’t ignore him because he keeps taunting your attacks. You either have to ability block him to stop his taunts–and there are other things out there to spend that on–or kill him with basics and save your better attacks for what may be an inopportune turn. Poe and Han are better area tanks, but a solid Chewie can perform better than has been described.

    5
    • usual problem with GW – survive first one-two rounds, and Chewie can do nothing for this, too slow for anything. situational use only

      3
    • I ignore Chewbacca until the end since he can’t hit hard. Either I near kill someone then drop idk, 3 AoE effects and wing a kill. Granted only one is useful, 2 if I have Ventriss. And with her, I attempt a dispel, if it fails, kill Chewbacca asap with heavy hits before my glass army shatters.

Take this with a grain of salt; no Chewbacca fights lately, and losing streak. Me, 3 wins a day, tops. Average maybe 1.5 a day.

  9. Well with such a variety of trolls, I just feel the need to post.
In Arena: He isn’t good. Like Barris, just ignore him until cleanup. Defense Up is a reduction in damage that I consider bad. Since it’s no help at all when those crits start. 2*
In PvE: Chewie as a starting guy rocks. And until you get St. Han to spread the gospel, he’s going to be a work horse. So keep on keeping on. 4*

    3
    • He’s actually a non-threat… I always manage to leave him for last.

      0
      • at low level, it is easy to leave Chewbacca to the end. but as he process to max level, his Taunt and last two turn, and reduce cooldown on both taunt & self heal. That time he would become very annoying.

You can use a character to dispel taunt, but dispel count as “Debuff” and there is no guarantee it would work.

Fives may be more powerful in PVP as an offensive tank. But in both story mode and Galactic War, Chewbacca is way much better.

        4
  10. Even if he has really good tank stats unless you have someone else in the squad who can taunt he’s almost useless IMO. I usually hit him with Sid to block his healing and I leave him for last because he’s a cupcake alone. I reccomend you to switch Chewi with Fives when you can, i’ve seen that guy killing 2-3 enemies alone in arena.

    3
    • Fives doesn’t have a taunt, so he fills a totally different role from Chewie. (If any role at all.)

      0
      • Oh god, no taunt! Fives must really suck except… he (as stated above) can solo 2-3 enemies in arena… but he’s a tank without taunt so he sucks, I guess…

        0
        • Fives deals the same damage as Chewie, only he has a counterattack – I’ve never seen him even come close to killing anything. Hence, the “if any role at all” comment.

But okay, sure, if Fives dealing marginally more damage when you target him (which you won’t – no taunt) makes him the perfect substitute, then why not replace him for First Order tie pilot? That guy can kill things in one shot. Oh, maybe you could just replace Chewie with literally any other character! …or maybe it actually has something to do with what role you are trying to fill in your team?

          0
          • I was talking about switching Chewie with Fives meaning with another tank class character. I think you underestimate this guy, he doesn’t own only counter skills, he has a basic attack (pretty spammed especially because he counts nicely) that slows down and, when all the opposite team is slown or ar least many of its members you’ll feel the difference. His lead sucks because there aren’t really solid clone troopers but Fives himself (Rex ain’t that good IMO) and his special ability is ok to me, it’s a bouns attack (of course Qui Gon Jinn’s one deals more damage) and it’s always usefull, especially when you have to take down a Sid before he strikes again.

            0
  11. I always go after a group With Chewie as leader in PVP because Ventris’s buff strip and heal is tailor made for a wookie group

    0
  12. I think Chewie is underrated. I’ve been using him since I first got him. He’s instrumental in my GW runs and I believe he’s pretty decent on defense in Squad Arena.

    4
  13. does he really have around 13k health maxed out?!? i have him and fives both 4 star in epic gear. fives has like 2-3k health on him. but fives late game only has 1k health on him? chewy gets a lot of damage items in tier 6/7 gear. i mean ive borrowed a 7 star chewy and he seems tanky. but i cant compare because my highest hp troop is only at 10.5k atm. I mean if he does get that tanky, i would say its a battle between poe and chewy for 2 best tanks with taunt in the game.

    0
  14. Overall, chewi makes an excellent tank. Taunt, high hit points, self-heal and high defense means he will be on the field a while. His attack speed is pretty darn slow though and his damage is crappy so he doesn’t belong in an any extreme offense focused teams. Don’t auto while he’s heal blocked or he will waste his self-heal and a turn.

    4
  15. Best Leader ever. You don’t need Sid or Barriss or Lumi or Phasma as leaders. They’re good for unique abilitied. Chewbacca’s leader ability is the best defense you could ever wish.
On the other hand, his massive defense plus his powerful self-healing attack makes him basically immortal, and this works good with the taunting to prevent other allies from death and maybe heal them during that turn. He’s a little slow but it has the ability to load his turn meter. However, the bad thing is that the taunting is just for 1 turn. But it doesn’t matter. He’s the best leader.

    0
    • I love Chewie also and he was regular on my team until I got my full jedi team, but unfortunately he is not the best leader. Not even close really. I don’t have alot of characters but I do have Lumi and Ima-gun Di, both of their abilities are way better(at least for a jedi team, so-so if not). Even Luke’s tenacity is more important in arena or GW when fighting against Sid or other debuffers. Based on what I’ve been reading regarding defense and Def up, they are almost a waste. What does an extra 40 or even 100 points of armor worth when you are fighting against canons that regularly do 5-7000 before being boosted up? Granted he will almost always live thru his taunt round and his self heal is very nice, but his lack of damage makes him a just a good tank.

  16. Is Bowcaster unable to be upgraded past level 4?
