  1. Since the last patch that introduced ships and improved Boba Fett greatly, any time I have faced Maul in GW, he now has an ability tied in with his AOE attack that causes the dazed effect similar to the one in ship arena (same icon). I have not seen this before nor did I see it in the release notes. Anyone else care to chime in on this?

    A total wrecking machine!
    If he is not killed absolutely within the first 15 seconds of a match he will wipe you clean!
    I use him for a pinch hitter as he can get clobberred easily….
    2 or 3 knocks on the head and he is done!
    Funnest toon to watch and play with!
    Only one con…you must be lucky or rich to acquire him and star up.

    luckily I got him to 5 stars level 77 and he’s amazing. he has taken countless jedi teams in one turn. his double damage perk puts him in the top 5 best in the game

  6. Is it even possible to get Maul to the level he is on the light side battle hard mode one??????? Love to use him but you just can’t past level 60. Just to easy to die

  8. I was hoping that with the introduction of the Protection meter that they’d give Maul a decent shield to make up for his low health and speed.
    I understand his lower health because he has high self-healing capabilities (potential 25% of max on hit); I also understand his low speed because of his extra turns on basic killing blows which are incredibly abundant with his high damage and critical rating. The two together though are a tough hump to get over before his first turn, and a high shield would have been the perfect answer.
    All in all, I absolutely love the character and toon. I unlocked him with my first chromium pack and he’s currently 5*, lvl 67, e7. He has often dropped entire teams in GW during his first turn.

    • He has the lowest survivability pools in the game. And his only stay that tops others is in AOE damage. Plz developers, Make Darth Maul Great Again.

  10. I use Sid(lead) Dook, Luminara,Talia, and Maul wondering if i should use another healer or another stun char. not sure who i would drop though

    • I would replace Talia with Old Daka in a heart beat. Basic attack with stun. Heal that can resurrect. What’s not to love? (Aside from the grind to farm her)

    • I must say, have a good tauting tank is an absolute need with Maul and Royal Guard and Stormtrooper Han Solo works wonders for that. RG can save Maul from dying in his first turn and be the difference between a wrecked opposing team or a dead-before-anything Maul. Stormtrooper Han makes the low speed of Maul means little and the sith will just spawn death on their enemies pretty quickly making the match end before someone can say “RUN, JEDI, RUN!!”, but a debuffer can ruin your fun. Buuut… if that debuffer is QGJ and you are free to focus, QGJ will almost always act before Han and my be dead before he can even act again to remove Han taunt. Well… QGJ don’t have a good experience with Maul, anyway.

      For a easily avaiable lead I may recommend Sidious. Really, build Maul with 4 crit damage mod and 2 crit chance mod plus Sidious lead bonus and Maul damage will roar! Really, that way Maul with have a BASE crit chance of 75% and 230% crit damage BEFORE someone dies and his passive grants him more 20% of crit chance! It’s 95% crit chance (reduce enemy crit resistance) at 230% crit damage and 2X that damage on Jedis! That is insane!! Or, and I forgot to mention… his base attack has 50% chance of giving him offense up on level 7 and 100% in level 8!!! It’s 50% MORE damage!! That’s insane!!! Oh, and don’t forgot he moves again after scoring a kill with his base attack. He WILL steamroll!

      Oh, and even BEFORE his passive grant’s him 20% heal of his damage, he already is healing like crazy because of his absurd potential damage! His special ability that is an area attack makes him heal basically his full health because of that! Really, if Mauls don’t die quickly, he WILL consume the other team easily, Jedi or not… but Jedi mainly!! If the enemy has 2 jedi, they almost already lost if they don’t neutralize Maul in a rush!

      Speaking about jedis, while Maul wrecks jedi team, I also find him good against anything else! He is overkill in a jedi team, of course, but not less than a maniac against anything else!

      • Ok, hype apart, before you throw your precious crystals farming this crystal hungry char, like I just said he is a MONSTER when he works… but notice… WHEN-HE-WORKS!!

        Maul potential is enough to win a match almost by himself causing more damage than all of the rest of his team combineed, but he is also fairly easily countered and dispached. Since his speed is SUPER slow, if someone freeze him he is out for a long time. If he miss an attack he is out for a long time. If someone slows him, gosh, it is like he is dead already.

        He is ubberly squishy, so if the enemy team focus him before your tank can Taunt he is dead already. Sometimes even RG can’t prevent this from happening since Maul has low health and once he lost his shield and just a little bit of health he can be instakilled by a heavy attack, crit or a combined attack. Sometimes even when RG taunt the opponent may use an area damage right after and Maul will be dead anyway. If the enemy team has, like, two fast attackers like QGJ, Dooku, Rey or a freaking Biggs + Wedge they can kill Maul even before you make your first move if you lack faster toons.

        So all in all Maul is a true glasscannon, a high risk high reward toon. He can easily be the toon that win a match and easily be the one that loses a match for you. In all honesty while I do love Maul by a lot, Rey may be a waaay better option over him in most scenarios, since she also does a lot of damage and isn’t squishy as she sould be. Maul massive damage potential is pretty well balanced by his lack of speed and sulvival, while you can’t say the same for Rey. All in all I do think Maul IS better than Rey especially when the enemy has jedis, but that when he works and is not busy being dead/stunned/slowed on the very initial turns.

  11. I love using him in arena fights. Im lvl 70 and always look for 3+ jedi squads. I like to pick one jedi to attack till its in the red, maul is always last to go so if he can stay alive and hit the dying jedi and get the dmg bonus, get the extra turn from the kill shot, use the aoe and he will kill or nearly kill every jedi and then its over. trouble is keeping him alive till his turn if he dies or dodge his first attack i almost always lose. I probably win 75% of the time though.

  13. underrated great attack and double damage against jedi +100% turn meter on kill, he is the best attacker in the game (besides maybe lando) he does have his downfalls though. his shards are kind of hard to get and his doesnt have much health

  14. Squish. Seems like he could be dangerous if he got a speed boost either from a leader ability or an update. I’m guessing he’s dangerous against Jedi if you don’t take him out, but every time I’ve seen him I hit him with QGJ’s harmonious and he’s either dead on the spot or one from Lumi does it. Double damage ain’t bad tho.

    • You’re pretty much right on the money. I run a jedi team, and the only time I haven’t focused him first was the first time I fought him. Didn’t know what to expect, and he just about wiped my team with his aoe. You don’t see him often, but if I ever do he’s the first to go. Fortunately, taking him out is a breeze. He’s squishy and slow. I could see him being the leader of a sith team being a pain, though.

  15. Playing with Maul has to be great, as the computer doesn’t focus on him.
    Playing against Maul is also great, as he has the resiliency of an egg. Two hits and he’s done, combined with his low speed so everyone goes before he does. Only exception is he would be pretty devastating on a team with Sidius, Dooku, and Daka where they are stunning and quickly attacking your characters.
    So everyone loves him. But overall, low survivability combined with having to pay to get him and rank him up means 2/5 for me.

  16. I’m F2P, I got maul on my second chromium pack and used him from the beginning. The highest I ever got in arena was rank 10 with him as the main damage and 3 healers with Sid.

    Pros:
    Great in GW because now he has the life leech to keep him alive, it’s always nice to gain back all your health on the AOE.
    Great for dark side campaign because you face alot of jedi teams and watching him tear them down one by one in one is fun.
    Great in Arena only up to level 50-60 @ 4 stars before they can one shot you.

    Cons:
    Very slow and squishy. Can be one shotted easily.
    Gets useless when you get to level 60-70 arena unless you rank him up and that is extremely hard without spending alot of money. Better use of resources elsewhere.
    His level 8 gear does not increase speed or health in any way, its just all damage which you don’t really need because you get finished before you even have a turn in arena.

    Some people have pitched hiding behind a tank, the problem with that is (I have a fully geared poe) there are still many toons faster than poe that will go first (QGJ, SID, GEO Dood) and they will one shot maul before he sniffs a turn.

    Overall:
    He was great in beginning but always have some other damage you’re slowly farming in the background or don’t level him at all if you have better setups you’re aiming for. Until he’s farmable, there are better options.

    • Dude you forgot RG, he auto taunts whenever an ally is below 50% health.

      • RG doesn’t auto-taunt on a 1 shot kill from what I’ve seen. He auto-taunts on an assist kill but the assist will still hot the targeted toon. So your toon will die and then you’ll have a tauntimg RG

  17. My 7* lvl 62 Maul has been ripping apart Jedi teams, even teams with higher level, 7* Jedi healers. His primary attack is very strong and will give him 100% turn meter on a finishing blow, so i do a few AOE attacks with Sidious and Boba or others, then Maul takes out multiple Jedi in one turn, not to mention if Chewy or another tank taunts on the opposing team, I can still do AEO attacks then finish them off with Mauls AOE.

  18. 5*. Highest damage character I have with his offense up and double jedi damage. If I’m facing healers, then not super helpful because of slow speed. With Phasma leading I can sometimes get a one-turn kill on a jedi.

  19. From what ive seen so far with my Maul; If you can set him up well enough and make him go, you have a monster on your hands, who can do as much as decimate an opposing squad.
    Especially now that you can pick your opponent and look out for squads with 2+ Jedi, he can really be used to effect. His squishyness is a real issue, if you however can work around that with good tanking he can and will obliterate enemy squads.

    In GW I do keep him out of harms way though, hate losing him in an insignificant battle.

    • absolutely. And protect him with Royal Gard who immediately intervenes after the first hit on Maul. With this team, impossible to lose against a 3 jedi team.

  21. He’s been carrying my team as the main dps. I have him geared to 6 at level 49. So far in Arena I’m up to rank 40’s. Got him off my first pack and he’s been delivering in spades. A lot of arena teams at my level have your standard double jedi healers and they get toasted with whirling blades. He’s also been a great help in doing challenges and completing missions. He probably does get weak later since you can’t farm him.

    • He’s good to level 50, then he gets taken out easily in PVP and GW, that is where I stopped with him. Especially now that you can get Qui-Gon, he will be your new beast.

      • And I crush your team right back. One hit from Sid and a Special from Qui-Gon, Maul was dead. Didn’t notice what star level you have him at, but I was lucky enough to get a 4* in the first pack I bought. Too expensive (real money and crystals) to chase. If they ever make him farmable I will grind to max him out.

  22. Also his armor is really hard to rank up to purple. It has the same trouble as Chewie, in every sense, both being highly dependant in gear to workaround their drawbacks. All in all, a great hero and damn cool, but one you shouldnt be desperately eager to get unless that you can rank it up in stars and gear.

    Four stars and level six gear is ok-ish, but just dont deploy it when you arent gonna face Jedis, then it comes to be sub-par due to a combo of low health and speed, although this last can be vastly overthrown if you use his last-hit basic skill to make it reset turns.

    -PvE: 8/10. Could be more if only there were more Jedi-only battles, but still really usefull to take down healers.
    -PvP: 8/10. Only trouble being that most people will target it first, and its health pool is not really one able to withstand that. Better deployed next to a turn controller, like Phasma or Fives.

    -Positive: great damage output, specially against Jedi healers, turn resets, awesome passive skill that will make survive a LOT if not focused fast enough.
    -Negative: health and speed, very weak against 0-Jedi and AOE teams, screwed up when debuffed speed/healing.

    A great finisher for AOE-based teams.

  23. Love Maul, but so quick to die. Combining him with ST Han tank (20 turn meter when Han takes damage for whole squad) helps give Maul goes, and protects him. Quick healer to keep Maul alive at the opening of the battle. As long as he survives you are in business.

  24. I got a Darth Maul shard from the last case in the GW today, wasn’t expecting that. Anyone else get one?

    • A friend of mine just had that happen to her, I was there and I just said no that, impossible… so yeah. Hasn’t happened to me though

    • I’ve gotten 5 Aayla Secura shards from finishing GW. I’d love to be able to have her, but I’m not spending money on the game and even if I somehow get another 45 shards to unlock her, it’d be next to impossible to keep upgrading her to keep up with my higher level/rank team.

      I’d still rather get a shard for someone like Maul or Secura, than ones I’ve gotten before like Dathcha.

  25. Too squishy to be viable since he’s unfarmable. Hits like a truck, sure, but unless you can star him up, he’s not worth bringing. At only 4*, he gets killed on my squad before he can even do any of his phenomenal damage.

  26. I have a 5* and I avoid pvp with him like the plague. He’s very squishy which is a huge problem. I want him to be good… I really do. But even at 5* -6* he gets killed so fast that his damage is pointless. I’d rather have someone who hits softer and lives longer to actually do that damage than a character who dies in 2 turns. Needs a buff… If nothing else in the armor arena

  27. slow and easy to kill. but nothing scares me more then letting an enemy maul live. he hits like a truck was dropped from the stratosphere and does double damage to jedi and only gets stronger as enemies die because that’s fair and balanced lol

  28. Only problem is he’s got the third lowest health in the game and middling armor, and he’s super slow. Can take about as much punishment as a jawa. This makes him very vulnerable in pvp since you can often knock him put before he even gets a turn.

  29. Dude is a MONSTER. His AOE attack does so much damage and then you can use his basic attack to knock the survivors off, get another turn, repeat until victory

    • I agree. Powerful attacker with repeat attacks. Hope a shard farm for him opens up soon, otherwise he will be stuck at the star level you get him at for the foreseeable future.
