  1. Good character. Decent damage output, debuffs, and “Sadistic Glee” more than makes up for the low health pool. Pit him against Ackbar and any high damage toon, however, he is useless.

Imho, as a lvl 62 almost f2p (spent 15+tax) who finished 2nd in arena today (I have only finished outside the top 3 twice) my team of Sid (L)7*, qgj 5*, luminara 7*, GS 7*, and RG 3*, all with top possible gear.. most abilities at 6, is not as strong with anyone else leading! And, I don’t drop like a rock, lowest of recent memory was 19th, which is super key so I usually only need one refresh to lock my rank. He has a well rounded skill set, but self healing while also denying healing is really good offence! **Using Sid’s AoE to finish off a toon their taunter is keeping me from, and/or to remove Rey’s and Yoda’s perception, and most of their shields is my new favorite. **His leader abilities are among the very best of any toon, but make him invaluable to any serious f2p arena squad. Period. Again, imho.

Sid was a powerful toon from a bygone era he is still solid in early game but becomes redundant later in there was a time when he was essential but has been nerfed to obscurity do yourself a favor and farm Leia, ST Han, HK 47 or IG88 in arena shipments all are far more useful in late game than Sid which is a shame because in SW lore he is one of the most powerful characters in the Galaxy. But in game he gets battered a host of nobody characters.

    Such a shame I wasted time and energy lvl and Staring him when I could have farmed more useful toons

      I kick ass with Sid. he’s my favorite and best character. Can’t wait for them to release him in his emperor form. he’s my go to character. I’m not wasting time with some of the others. he almost always lands his heal immunity for me. in arena he’s gotten me where I am every time and he’s a must destroy first when against me.

  4. Sadly, I got him to 7 star. I wish I hadn’t. I would have rather had HK at 7 by now. Sid is weak as shit in late game. I’m lvl 72, and the only teams I use him on is my dark side missions (because I don’t have another high star option) and against the training droid challenge to heal debug Boba Fett.

    Sid hits like a wet noodle, rarely applies his heal debuff in high level pvp, and his AOE attack consistently comes up with 7-9 cases of “resisted”. In terms of power rating he’s my 2nd strongest character but I rarely use him.

    When I see teams in arena which use him, I know it’s almost an automatic win for me. I leave him for last because I know he can’t do any real damage even against my three Jedi team. In GW I often kill him first, only because heal debuff neuter my heal heavy GW team, but I target him after IG88 or Kylo because bother of them are far more dangerous.

    Ultimately, he gets stars because of how easy he is to max out, in the early game he’s easy to have 1-2 stars above everyone else with higher gear levels. Late game he’s junk. I give him 3 stars because he’s got a couple very niche applications, but that might be a bit of a nostalgic rating for back when he was far more developped than the rest of my squad.

  5. I like Sid. Easy to get. Easy to star, aoe is killer, heal immunity necessary, have to have him on multiple teams , great character

  6. Absolutely obnoxious. Fairly frail and his debuff and dot doesn’t proc that often in high level play, but as someone who runs an all jedi team, I HATE how common he is for one reason. His dodge against jedi is a whopping 35%. Whether or not I can take him out is entirely based on luck. Sometimes he’ll go down from just a couple heavy attacks, but more often than not I end up taking 2 or 3 turns per character just to get rid of him. And if I leave him be he’ll gradually apply dot and healing immunity to my whole team. A single character should not be able to effectively neuter an entire team. I give him 4 stars because personal gripes aside, he is a pretty solid character, if completely overused.

  8. At 57 6* VI I’ve discovered that he barely ever lands the healing immunity (and the forthcoming gear isn’t going to help) in Arena or GW, so as my leader in those isn’t him he’s now only useful to me in PvE.

    For PvE I’ll get the next star, but if I wasn’t only 7 purchases away in the Arena Store I’m not sure I’d bother, not that there’s obviously anything else worth buying there. That may demoralize me regarding arena, which is a shame, as I can use the crystals. I think they should add something nice to the Arena Store or we’re all going to be in the same boat.

  9. For arena his kit is currently lacklustre. Heal debuff- nobody heals in arena. Self heal- personally I save him for close to last anyway because his damage is sub-par and heal buff is moot. His leader ability is good but outshined by quite a few. 3* at best. If I see him on defense I pretty much go for that team for an easy win.

    He is handy for ds missions. Healing is scarse and his self heal is very usefull here. Also a decent leader for ds missions 4*

    For gw I prefer a 6* Kylo Ren rather then a max Sid. Nuff said. 3*

    • I’m curious: What level were you at when you wrote this? It would help put it into context, because at level 57 I face a lot of teams with healers. Though they don’t always get the chance to actually heal it’s a nuisance when they do and I’m also finding his heal debuff moot, but because it seldom takes at this level.

    • i actually find that healing immunity can be used to psyche out healers like lumi so they dont use their powerful attacks but waste a turn on healing which has no effect, just leave the victim in critical state until they use heal

  10. My analysis of Darth Sidious is actually very simple: Any character that is used by 90%+ of all builds is clearly broken.

    Don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to complain about him being over-powered, I’m able to beat him just fine in most instances. My complaint has to do with the fact that I’m tired of constantly facing off against him. If I see another Sidious/Phasma/Dooku/Luminara build I think I’m going to throw up.

    Seriously people, there are other characters out there, even for you F2P people. Yes, I know, Sidious is powerful and if you’re F2P he’s one of the best you can get for free, but seriously, there are tons of other builds that are at least as good as this one or better.

    The best aspect of this game is that you can be creative and experiment with various builds. Why, then, would you keep using the same characters as everyone else? How is it fun if you’re fighting the same battle over and over and over again?

    No risk, no reward. If you don’t branch out and try using a character other than Sidious, you’ll never achieve the satisfaction of coming up with your own unique and yet still perfectly valid (or even dominant) build.

    • If there was a prize for intelligent comment of the month, it would be heading your way right now. I refuse to use him for exactly the reasons you give. Is his overuse mainly due to the stagnant nature of the character choice in arena and squad shard shops…? Sid doesn’t need changing, but perhaps other characters that are never used need to be looked at, and the question ‘why not?’ asked.

      • I agree that there’s really nothing else worth spending on in the Arena Shop (so he naturally ends up 7* so he gets played). When mine has hit 7* I don’t know what I’m going to buy there because the rest are highly situational at best, which is where he’s at too now that his healing immunity seldom lands (a symptom of tenacity rising faster than potency rather than some change to him I presume).

        • I wholly regret getting him, if anyone sees this save your arena tokens for ig-88 hits far harder and has synergy with other builds. Trust me, the 180 shards i spent on sidious i wish i could get back. Useless token character thats only helpful if he lands a healing immune.

          • Edit* the Jedi dodge seems to work on defense so i throw him in my last arena match of the day. But on offense you could have Underworld Police be more helpful

  12. A real horror for Jedi-Teams and a very good Leader for the dark side in Krit-AOE-Teams, for example with IG-86, IG-88, Vader as AOE-Supporter and One-Time-Finisher and Old Daka/Royal Guard to protect.

    His Ability to inflict Healing Immunity can be really anoying and he can hit quite hard.
    Must-have!

  13. The speed, self-healing, and decent damage keep him on most of my squads but any sort of focus knocks him out in seconds. Great option for f2p like me but I feel like he could be replaced easily if I spent some money.

    • He can be replaced very easily, I used him for awhile, when u hit lvl 70 he’s pretty much useless .
      Fast attackers take him out in 2 hits. Basic hit by 1 attacker and 1 attack with assist he’s gone. And I find his AOE useless too .

      • Not really going to be the ideal toon for any team, but there may not be anyone more capable of being stuffed in with any other 4 toons and being productive. Paired with glass cannons, he becomes nearly invincible, as someone is dieing nearly every action. And against a jedi team, he is simply too likely to dodge to take him out first or second.
        Which makes it extremely boring, and mildly annoying, that i have faced exactly ONE GW team in the last 2 weeks that did not have Sid.
        Not optimal in most/any end-game teams, but maxing him early is not something anyone would regret. And no one has, apparently because every soul in the game seems to have him among their highest chars.

  15. I think the largest question here is a simple one…Why is Darth Sidious, aka the Emperor, not tagged as an Empire character?? He should have synergies with Empire characters I would think. Which brings, of course, a further need to balance him, but at the same time, could prevent him from being used in 95% of Arena Squads.

    • I agree with you. And why isn’t Kylo Ren a leader? He only LED the First Order! It gets old when 90% of people have the same 5 or 6 people on ever squad arena team ( Sidious, Unduli, Jedi Counselor, Dooku..).

    • It is because the version of Darth Sideous they use in this game is from before he becomes the Emperor, in the Clone Wars cartoon when he fights Darth Maul and Savage Opress.

      because this is “the clone wars” version of darth sidious. in that TV show he isnt part of the empire as in the original trioligy and prequels.

    • Darth Sidious in the game is based off of the Clone Wars era. There was no empire during the clone wars which is why Sidious doesn’t have any empire synergies.

    • Darth Sidius is pre-empire…he’s Republic…that’s why he doesn’t shoot electricity from his finger tips! In pre-empire, everyone was aligned with him…which is why his leadership ability applies to everyone! What they need to make is the Emperor character…then that character can be aligned with the Empire cast. Cheers!

  16. My top team is Phasma (leader), Luminara, Sidious, Dooku, Old Daka. Phasma’s slow is nice, but here “Fire At Will” ability is awesome. Luminara is great as a healer. Daka is a good healer and she stuns with every attack. Sidious and Dooku just attack constantly.

  23. So glad they made Sidious a beast, one of my favorite characters. From the start you have the heal block move which is great for taking out tanks that can taunt. Demoralizing blows isn’t an amazing move but can come in handy when someone’s hp is super low as you can damage everyone a little. I haven’t used him as a leader yet but I’d imagine using him with Luke behind Poe and chewie with a healer would work great. Then you’ve got sadistic glee where he heals a decent amount of hp every time an opponents charcter dies. And if that’s not enough its super easy to get shards for him as he’s in arena shipments. I don’t have too many characters but so far sidious is for my favorite attacker.

  24. i don’t personally have him but I’m ranked 1-11th in pvp depending on the time of the day (i finish at the end of the day somewhere in the top five) and I always kill him first, and for that reason i don’t think he’s that useful. My kylo and savage kill him the first turn they get and then he’s gone. He useful but his health is too low and he never gets to damage me so I don’t find him that useful since he really never causes me trouble in the arena

    • Well, isnt that a purpose too, even though it might not be the best one?

      With a little dodge-luck he survives, and you’ve drained a few good attacks opening up for the enemy team to do the same with one of yours.. ..or atleast that’s how it would work if the AI scripting wasn’t so terri-bad in general

    • I’m sorry but what are you smoking to say that your kylo and savage can kill him in first round? My 7* sid has 8189 hp so unless your two toons hit like trucks (they don’t) there’s no way they can take out sid in first round just by themselves. Kylo’s crit is so low he’s rarely going to crit sid even. My sid hits for 3k crit regularly, heals for 1417 for every kill, and hits around 2500 dmg for aoe. He’s an amazing well rounded character that is just a little squishy at 70.

          • Unfortunately I didn’t realize that I couldn’t change the name after setting it initially and now it’s stuck forever lol. My sid is 7* 5413 power, 9500 hp. Hits for about 2500 non-crit, but usually crits since his crit rating is nearly 450.

          • Don’t worry, it wouldn’t let me pick any of the names I was choosing when starting the game and I jokingly put in Shum Schlum just to see if anything would work and it didn’t give me a confirmation, just boom there you go now you’re Shum Schlum from now on.

            Speaking on Sidius though, him and Lumi are my favorites. They both have the highest damage on my team and are easy to rank up. If both survive the first round, they can hide behind tank and heal and take out characters each turn. The heal debuff is great strategy, and I love using it on a character to force a useless heal from other healers and waste their turns.

      • No this is legit, I also use Kylo and Savage and together with Savage’s special and Kylo’s 2nd special Sid is a 2HKO. If not then QGJ or Lumi easily finish him. That said, however, he is still really good.

    • Yeah ok, but sid will always hit first. It causes you no trouble because the bot on arena play sid as a delayed, using his area atack first. If on this rank, arena was a player vs player battle,and with sid the other player had other good heroes like kylo, dooku, phasma, luminara on same stats… You would probably always lose. Just on Speed sidius and dooku kills one and phasma makes all hit first.

  25. I don’t have him, but these are my observations from fighting him in just about every War/Arena event. Dude’s solid, and his speed is what makes him deadly. His AOE move is more effective than the single attack, but if you focus on him, he can be wiped out before getting the hp bonus if any of your guys go down. The best strategy is to use him behind a tank like Poe, Chewie, and/or Han with a healer. When used with other Sith or the Geonosian Fighter to round out your 5, its a pain.

  26. This guy is one of my favs in arena. He has a little bit of everything. Above average dmg, moderate survivability with sadistic glee, and the dreaded heal immunity debuff. With 3 turn duration, his debuff becomes a death sentence for the enemy. The only drawback is that bariss offee can heal through it.

      • Stun lock works great in stopping Bariss’ glitch. Ventress heals through Healing Immunity too.

        Ackbar is worse, he removes the debuff and heals.

    Also, althoug the 0% potency is a bit annoying for an owner of Sid like me, I will have to say that it is only fair this way for the sake of balancing. Healing immunity is a pretty serious debuff, and it would make sense to not make the chance of applying it too high.

    • “high natural dodge” is due to his massive 35% vs jedi, which do comprise 1/3 of light-side characters. I’d call that quite high natural dodge, given that it doesnt even require any action to activate it (unlike every other toon, excluding poggle).
      4*, in general. Against a jedi team, he is 5*.

  28. Begin Rant

    Why is it that Sidious is just IG-88 with better stats in every field, with the only noticeable difference being the droid synergy, which right now has minimal effect whatsoever?

    Take just the leader ability, with his at max as per the level 60 level cap, IG-88 grants 32.5% critical chance to all allies. Sidious on the other hand, according to this page, grants 40% critical chance and 20% critical damage to all allies, a blatantly better ability.

    This would be acceptable if it was harder to get Sidious, thus rewarding the players for attaining a rarer character, but seeing as how IG-88 and Sidious are both available through the exact same means (The PvP arena shipments or luck in packs) It just doesn’t make sense. It would be fine if IG-88 granted some kind of extra ability to droid allies, like a doubled critical chance bonus to droids
    (ok that might be a bit too strong, but something of that nature) because as of now IG-88 is just a bad version of Sidious and going for IG-88 has just felt like a complete waste of time and arena shipment tokens

    • Just prior to global release, Sidious and IG88 took a hit in the damage department. Balance has returned in that regard.

    • I think you read it wrong. It’s 14% critical chance, not 40%. Unless I’m missing something?

    • IG-88’s a boss! I you compare his max damage with Sidious, 88 does nearly double his damage.
      Sidious’s basic maxed=2956 dmg.
      IG-88’s basic maxed=4958 dmg.
      The major difference between the two are their passives.
      IG-88=bonus critical damage and a damage buff against debuffed enemies.
      Darth Sidious=Dodge chance against Jedi and heal on enemy deaths.
