  1. I just got Grievous, he is 4 star, level 59, and gear level VII. Why does he not have lightsabers? Am I missing something?

  2. Yeah I grinded on gg because i wanted a character that not everyone has. Sick of seeing teams with geo soldier, phasma, or rey. I’m up to 6* he is phenomenal with the right team spread. And after this mod update you can do so much more with him. Just cause ea put out one character that’s super hard to grind for people get all butt hurt cause they don’t have him.

  3. The math.
You need 280 g.g. shards to get from 3star to 7star.
Each g.g. shard cost 225 crystal. Whith each eXtra shard you trade in giving you 15 crystal.
So to get the 5 shard g.g. @ 1125 you must trsde in 75 extra shards. You end up trading in 4200 extra character shards to get g.g. to seven star.
    4200 traded into 280
    4200/280 = 15
You can seven star 15 other characters for the same price.
Though I like him and the Droid stradegys he can help in. The cost of getting him just isn’t worth the rewards.

    • G.g. Cost 80 shard to get then 250 to get to 7*
So 1125 crystal for 5g.g. Shards means you need 18,000 crystal to get grievous, then another 56,250 to get to 7* totallying a 74,250 to get a 7* general grievous…

  4. I got Grievous about a month ago and so far i would say he is pretty decent. At 4* and gear level 8 in my droid team he is doing about 4k dmg on a normal hit give or take. If you look at Grievous for what he is then he doesn’t seem very impressive. However, HK-47 gives all droids a 30% crit chance and 30% turn meter increase on crit (This is increased to 50%+ at lvl 80 which i don’t have yet). General Grievous has an AOE attack which against 4 to 5 standing enemies almost always guarantees an intimidate turn right after. In addition, the AOE attack applies a no heal debuff which itself is decent but but if you use your next immediate turn to apply health down then you’ve potentially applied 10 debuffs so now you you’re increasing IG-88’s damage output immensely off a guy who just attacked twice in a row, if HK-47 dropped his bomb before grievous then the debuffs make ig88 a god. And in addition to that when the current meta of the game is evasion, he is one of the few characters in the game who’s basic attack cannot be evaded. This character is worth his weight in shard shop shards if you run droids. If you fight against him in PVP don’t expect the AI to play it right, but when he’s in your hands he’s a powerful tool.

His biggest downfall is the auto taunting, if it falls on HK it’s no big deal but it does hurt when it falls on another attacker. I will not be upgrading his auto taunt ability to lvl 8.

    • Well no shit ur using him on the wrong team combination. Grievious, ig-86, ig-100, jawa engineer, and poggle lesser as leader try that and ull merc.

      5
      • And if ur not doin enough dmg which u should be. Drop jawa engineer or poggle ur choice id drop jawa tho and grab count dooku for grievious using him as a human shield and it might help.

        0
    • Nice assessment, except I think you misunderstand IG-88’s ability. He gets a damage increase for each debuffed enemy, not the total number of debuffs. So he can get a maximum of 100% damage increase if all 5 opponents have a debuff on them. Which, if he’s maxed out, is still a crazy amount of damage. He regularly crits for over 10k for me; it’s awesome.

I’ve been thinking about farming grievous because I run a droid team in arena. I think he would be awesome to have, but not sure if I want to suspend all my other farming yet to try.

  5. Not sure what the fuss is about old been and Leia. Leia I’m 2 shards away from and i never tried one to get her. As for ben, level 2 cantina, 2nd last battle. You should have him in less than geo weeks.grievous on the other hand… It’s going to take all summer at least. We need to be able to get rebel Luke!

    5
  6. Despite being incredibly hard to get, if you do have him he is quite good in a droid squad. The low health is offset by having other droids, and if you run a healer (maybe Jawa Engineer? I don’t know how good he is) then forcing someone else to taunt isn’t as bad. His leader ability is also helpful, stopping crit teams from shining. Overall, I think everyone is putting how hard to get he is over his actually value as a fighter.

  7. I am around rank 60 or so with minimal effort and a decent squad, have been as far up as 24. I also have not seen a single person in my server using GG as a leader, so I am probably on the wrong side of this debate, but it would seem to me that people are missing a huge opportunity here. Likely all of us here can agree that the assassin droids are beautiful attackers. It would make sense to me that a team led by hk-47 (buffing droids criticals) would make ig-88 and ig-86 a very potent combo that would only be assisted by GG recieving health benefits AND applying debuffs to the enemy squads, which only increases IG-88’s damage. A squad like that with, say, ST Han would sound a very fierce team to face. How do you use QGJ to remove han’s taunt if GG and IG continue to use ability block? It would seem to me that by the time you removed han from play the droids would already have seriously brought down your team. Similar team as led by poggle the lesser.

  8. Stupidly hard to get, way to go EA, and if I did have to face him, my Geo soldier would oneshot him, awesome character in star wars, EA really dissapointed me here.

  9. Ok, so he’s actually not half-bad as people are claiming. His leader ability is crit chance and crit damage reduction, so obviously he’s designed to keep your characters alive. Thing is, this has a huge impact on making the slower, tankier counter-attackers EXTREMELY VIABLE (Fives, FOST, IG-100 is debatable due to being gimped) when you factor in his unique passive to force them to taunt (basically, you want to make GG the initial “prime target”, which is hard since his debuffs aren’t remarkable, and his speed is low even if his damage is solid) – now, his passive might be bugged, but I’ve noticed that the unit he “forces to taunt for him” always gets full turn-meter (so, even if they weren’t taunting already -in fact, don’t even need to be capable of taunting-, they still immediately get next turn).

GG also makes other viable options happen. Such as: Nute Gunray (L), Leia, Teebo, GG, and Savage Opress. The first three can go stealthy, leaving GG and Savage as the only 2 targetable, forcing GG to become the most likely candidate for prime target, forcing him to have another unit taunt (assuming he doesn’t get 1-shotted) and gain full turn-meter. So, he’ll either force Savage to get the taunt (which can be beautiful), or if he makes a stealthy taunt, they’ll have next turn and get another nice crit off from stealth.

In essence, he’s certainly not game-breakingly powerful. In fact, it feels like with the gear they’ve assigned to GG, they’re intentionally holding him back for now (lots of difficult grinds that have some of the worst modifiers out of all the gear options). BUT, he brings some solid counters to at least one of the current most popular meta arena groups: the Sideous lead glass-cannon combine. However, I wouldn’t suggest using him as a leader against any Phasma-led groups.

    3
    • Add Aayla Secura to the list of counter-attackers in the first group (tanky counter-attackers) suggestion.

  10. Fought against team lead by Grievous (7* lvl 70 fully maxed out) and must say I wasn’t impressed. The player was harder to beat with QGJ or Sid as leader.
So from purely PvP point of view, his ranking is about right. For GW he’s probably even more useless due to his health and “cowardly” making other toon to taunt.
If you don’t have him, don’t be upset, he’s not a great toon.

  11. Why so many reviews saying that he is hard to get?? Ya it might take a bit to grind… a few months… but at least you can. Try grinding to get Old Ben, or Leia without paying a dime. He might be even easier to get then Rey or FOTP…

    0
    • I agree with BSJ, GG is easier to get than Old Ben and Leia for free to play players.

      0
    • Are you stupid? It takes a couple thousand dollars just to get him to seven stars, not to mention 2 shards of him cost like 1,000 shop shards. Grinding a few months….your probably an inexperienced player who knows nothing about SWGOH, most likely not even having a seven star character. Old Ben is just as hard to grind as Grievous, Leia is mostly for the P2P player, stupid. FOTP and Rey are easier to grind because they show up in dark/light side battles and cantina shipments. Grievous shows up in…none of them. So think before you post some bogus comment that everyone can tell that you’re some noob who doesn’t know anything about the game.

      0
      • Calm down. To get GG up to 7* you need to collect 4950 shards that you don’t need and trade them in. I can currently pull in about 50 shards I don’t need per day, so if I wanted him I could have him to 7* in about 3 months. The guy you are responding to was just talking about unlocking GG. At 50 unneeded shards per day, that would only take 24 days. @BSJ80 obviously thought about this more than you did, and knows more about the game than you do. No need for name calling.

        0
      • You have to pay for Old Ben and Leia, so you can’t grind for them. So to quote you, “Are you stupid?” “So think before you post some bogus comment that everyone can tell that you’re some noob who doesn’t know anything about the game.”

        1
        • I think you missed his point entirely…you have to pay for Leia. You don’t have to pay a dime for GG. Sure, it will take time, but you can grind out GG. I get 20 extra shards per day from GW, 10+ from the arena, 10 from the Cantina shop, 4-6 from hard battles, and 10 from Cantina battles per day. So, 54 shards per day X 15 = 810 shard currency per day that I don’t pay a dime for. So, 72,000 shard currency / 810 = 88 days. Free.

          0
          • I get extra Luminara + Phasma shards from GW. That’s it. It’s like one GG shard a day. Will take a while

            0
          • How do you get 20 shards per GW day, at 1200 gw currency I can use it to get only 15 on a maxxed toon like Luminara.

            0
      • DEEZ NUTzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ GOTT EM!!!!

        0
      • If you want to 7 star him in a single day starting from 0 shard currency…ya it would probably take more than a few thousand dollars. However, like the original post said, if you grind for a few months you can absolutely get this guy for free (perhaps 3+ months for 7 stars but absolutely doable). The characters everyone has 7 starred are generally the ones easily farmable from shipments and frankly unless you just want to have extra characters for the hell of it there aren’t more than a few useful characters from any of them so for me personally after Lumi and Phasma are now 7 star, it doesn’t even feel like much of a sacrifice to just continue farming them for shard currency. Old Ben officially is now farmable, but it’s not like the drop rate is reliable, and Leia is never going to be above maybe 3 star for all but the LUCKIEST of f2p due to her not being farmable anywhere.

        4
      • Obviously you know nothing it does not even take a dime to get him your just an idiotic freak looking for trouble Rey is not in cantina shipments where is your brain and I happened to have a 6 star Grievous coming up on 7 without paying anything in this game i farm IG-88 in Area Shipments and HK-47 and farm IG-86 in Galactic War Shipments and farm ig-86 in Squad Cantina Battles and farm Poe Dameron in Squad Cantina Shipments just farm your characters that are maxed and you could have 60 Grievous shards in a month bro it’s not hard

I am level 58 and my highest character star level is 5*s, General Grievous is my favorite character and I have over 20 characters. I will maybe get him in like a year :(

  13. I believe everyone agrees he’s way overpriced.
I’m curious to see the In-Game animation though.

  14. Some people pay money and it makes devs to work on this game. For those who pay really a lot, devs made a gift. It’s not something really worthy but it’s cool. I don’t expect him in #1 Arena squads, for example, even if a whale has him and I won’t farm him if it were some hard battles permitting it. I appreciate the approach which makes money not the crucial issue in this game. Anyway, I believe whales should have something cool. Grievous is cool, enjoy him.

  16. So Grievous takes 18,000 shard shop currency to unlock. That means with 15 currency per 1 shard traded, it would take unlocking a 5 shard pack of both an arena character and GW character 120 times each. If you average 2 packs a day each between the two, it would take you 60 straight days of doing that to unlock grievous, and only at 4 stars.

In other words, he’s P2P only. Good abilities in the right group, but nothing game changing and not worth the money (P2P) or time/shards (F2P).

    1
  17. So.. It seems I’m the only one who noticed this:

Tactical Retreat – Grievous has +9% max health for each living droid ally. in addition, whenever grievous falls below 50% health, he will dispel all negative status effects on himself and force a random ally to taunt for 1 turn if no ally is currently taunting for him. if he does, that ally also gains 100% turn meter.

Basically, he forces another character to taunt for !ONE! turn and gives them full turn meter.
That means they’ll have their turns as the very next person (unless other enemies are at 100% turn meter when the first enemy pops Grievous down to <50% hp, then it's not quite guaranteed) and instantly have the taunt run out.
Maybe the "if he does, that ally also gains 100% turn meter" is refering to what happens when someone is already taunting and Grievous hits 50% hp, but in that case, it's worded horribly bad, and the ability is still basically as useless, if not more.
So far, what it looks like to me, is just an Admiral Ackbar ability without the defense penetration.

    0
    • Looking at how Royal Guard’s “1 turn” works, it may, as I had an ally to drop to 50% and it pushed him to 100% via his passive, and he retained his taunt.

      0
    • It means that if a person on his team is already taunting, they gain 100% turn meter. It’s worded fine and could actually be really useful if you could play it up ahead of time.

      4
  18. Before people start shit talking Grievous for being too expensive and how EA caters to whales, I doubt Grievous is going to be game breaking. Sure, he is “cool” and by cool I mean he got killed by a jedi without a lightsaber after running away within the first half of the only movie he was in. I’m F2P and I finish top 5 (if not 1st) on my server 6/7 days a week. I have to beat a lot of those whale teams to make it up there too. Which bring me back to my original point. EA doesn’t cater to whales. They cater to people who understand strategy and synergies. You can’t just drop 5k on the game and win, you still have to put some thought into it.

Now… if they had put Revan in the shard shop, I’d probably be pretty upset.

    0
    • Totally agree.. and may I say ty EA… because I am a whale to in app purchases games (aka addictive personality ).. tho with star wars the more you spend the more it punish you. Thus causing me to only refresh energy a couple times and actually look up from my phone once in awhile. Cheers

      0
    • would you mind telling me what your F2P Team is?

      0
  19. You’ll need 74,250 shard Currency to 7* GG.

    0
  20. 225 shard shop tokens for 1 shard, or 15:1 shard exchange for a squishy AND slow character. Normal ex.rate is 10:1. I feel ripped off after saving GW, Arena and Cantina tokens to dump on 7* characters.

    0
    • EA Greed knows no bounds…

      0
      • I wouldn’t say it’s greed… it’s rewarding players who dumped their excess income into the game.

        0
      • It’s great.. it keeps me on track completing my team rather than dumping on my 7* toons chasing shards.. I’ll wait for some grievous pack or hopefully they put him in march daily login.. I do gotta say he’ll probably be horrible on defense… forcing cannons to taunt would be devastating and no Droid can heal him to stop this
