  1. I want to like magamtrooper. Undoubtedly one of the more badass character models in the game.

I honestly just think he’s misclassified as an attacker. Definitely has more tank attributes – very high health but very disappointing attack.

The turn meter manipulation is nice but it’s not worth much when his attacks don’t pack much punch.

Still I’m going to continue to farm and see if it gets any better. Don’t get me wrong he’s definitely not a bad toon, just think he could be better.

  2. Someone has noticed that max potency for full gear is 87%, but if you take a look for the lvl 9 and lvl 10 gear there is nothing that gives potency and for full gear 8 it only has 7% potency?

I mean 87% potency to put the turn meter reduction is ok. 7% is shit and that makes a really big difference making the toon viable.

  3. Darth Darthingstock

Got Magmatrooper in a 7* team, Magma, ST Han, Phasma Leading, Luminaria and Darth. Works a treat, can lockdown the other team useually for two turms which gives enough turn meter to down one or two opponents. They maybe get one shot in before you dispatch someone and then it’s only one turn before your resets happen allowing you to lock the other teams turn meter down again. Sometimes I loose Han when he is taunting against other good teams but other than that pretty reliable for wins everytime.

  4. Update: I got my Magma to 7* today, gear 8. With the latest update, he has 25k total hit points (including protection). High HP plus the turn meter reduction attack makes him an awesome support character. Building an AOE squad around him and having pretty good success, and I like being the only one using him around Rank 100 where I usually finish.

    4
  5. With a mid to high level Vader as leader, he is a great addition to an empire squad.

    4
  6. He does initially hit like a cream puff..and it doesn’t get great end game from the looks of it, but I am interested in the suggested turn manipulation and his tenacity. A player shocked me with a five star and 7+ gear Smegmatrooper by having a Physical damage rating over 1k and pretty good health for a comparatively low character level toon. Maybe he’s not so bad

    0
    • Maybe they fixed his dmg?

      0
    • I have him at 6* and while damage output isn’t great that will increase quite a bit as all his lvl 8 gear is damage increasing. hes bulky though and his ability is awesome. Good with a phasma lead too

  7. My magma trooper is 4star atm and not bad so far.

I’M experimenting a Turnmeter based team comp of

1)Phasma with +50% TM to allies
2)Magmatrooper for -40% TM to enemies
3)Han for +20% TM to all allies when hit or Poe for initial TM reduction and tank
4)Fotp for damage and FO synergy
5)FoO for FO synergy AND TM manipulation.

This team comp will allow my guys to attack many many more times than my enemies and it will be a killer comp.
Enemies cant kill you if their turn gets killed first.

    Your welcome

  8. I think Magma would be great in a tenacity squad. If you have Luke as leader Magmatrooper’s tenacity is over 100% meaning he can crush enemies like Sid with turn meter gain from Hazard Training.

    0
  9. He is the best option to get down Sidious and Obi One, he just add lots of turns and make slow the other team to attack first with all your squad, but, if he doesn’t fight vs this kind of characters (Even Darth Vader, but there are only 5* max so, not a real good deal yet) he can’t give good support, is just a good counter to that characters, that’s all, now I have he on 5* Vlll gear, and works good vs Sidious all the time in GW.

  10. Getting to gear 8 you need 60 purple holo projectors (+15% total tenacity) and 50 carbanti sensors (+25 str). Jeebus! Since farmable in GW I invested in this toon as I wait for level cap increase. Fun, but any toon with random damage is hard to control and the extra turn remove on imploder doesn’t seem to hit enough. Doesn’t crit for shit, even with Sid, might need boba lead. Still fun way to waste my GW tokens

    3
    • Holo projectors are tough, but carbanti sensors are available in Challenges, you can easily get at least 50/week.

      0
    • That’s how I feel. Everyone else good I have maxed out already in galactic war, so he gets the shards for now. They really need to cycle more players thru those goddamn stores.

      2
  11. Mag troop will be great against sid’s aoe attack. Which will trigger its amiblity as long as it’s hit by it since it will either resist or be affected by status. Turn meter will then max and use its own aoe attack which will reduce opposition turn meter 30-60% allowing your whole team to then attack before the other team. Can’t wait to get to 7*

    • I’m not so sure that a DoT counts as a status effect. I have never seen Barriss remove a DoT despite watching out for it every time I take on Vader.

I’d be interested to see if anyone can confirm your theory.

      0
      • The DoT Vader/Sidious and other characters give, should be a negative status. I mean, Vader’s Culling Blade removes ALL negative STATUSES for extra damage and he removes DoT with any other status and has boosted damage because of it. Maybe you just get extremely unlucky with Barris’ ability and by chance it’s always against DoT?

        0
      • DoTs are status effects. Both Vader and Ackbar remove them with their skills, just like any other negative status effects (except Heal Immunity, which apparently is only not being removed by those skills because of a glitch, if the update notes are to be believed).

        0
      • It works awesome, with so many people running sid in the arena the ability lets you get the jump on guys like poe and reduce his and his droid mates (nearly always) turn meter before they can act. Farming gear is a little tedious though

  12. Her main limitation is her main benefit, the random added damage. In a team oriented toward AOE it seems like it could be strong, but unfocused damage is vulnerable to any random heal triggered by whatever you are focusing on.

If your focused burst damage kills your target before heals can occur the head start from the random damage to something else is probably not on what you wanted to kill next and is surely only likely to make the AI inadvertently heal soon enough to be annoying. This can also occur before you’ve even killed your original target — Imagine Sid being saved because of random extra damage to something else triggering a heal and you see how annoying this could be.

Many times a team can be taken down without any heals occurring just by focusing on one target at a time. Though a ridiculous amount of data-mining would be required to be sure, her random extra damage seems at best as much a hindrance as a help, at least in GW and Arena.

I like her actual AOE attack, as -time is always good, but I don’t think it makes up for her main attack being good so infrequently.

Though I like her for PvE, I would never run her in either PvP, so I’m not motivated to put the work into her to make her useful for PvE either.

In short she was poorly conceived. If the added attack included a Slow (presumably with less damage and more likely to go off) then I’d consider using her, but as she is she’s useless except to new players needing more dark side toons.

  13. I finished poggle today and started this guy. 2 stars now probably be 3 tomorrow. Gear 6 currently. Seems fun with phasma or assist team.

  14. Got this char up to level 68 / 2 stars / gear-level 7 / ability-level 3 today. My Magmatrooper is only 2 stars right now since it only just now became farmable, and I’m trying to save resources ATM so I haven’t put any purple ability mats into it, but Magma already seems like a pretty tough cookie.

Lots of health, lots of tenacity, and helps with turn-meter control. Since I don’t have him fully maxed-out yet, I can’t really comment on his offense, but it doesn’t seem like that’s his primary strength. Note however that since he has AoE, if you combine him with someone like Poe who fits really well with an AoE character, his AoE can be a stronger asset than you might think.

Magma doesn’t have any new Empire synergies, but is still a good addition to an Empire squad since most Empire characters do have synergies that improve when you have more Empire characters on your team. This character would work well in a mostly Empire build, and I also like the suggestion someone else had of building an entire team around tenacity.

With Magmatrooper’s high health, tenacity, and turn-meter control, if you’re wanting to build on his (her?) strengths, I suggest choosing teammates that will improve one or more of these 3 areas. This would suggest that Barriss, Luke Skywalker, Kit Fisto, or the ubiquitous Phasma would all make excellent leaders for Magma. And, as I mentioned before, he fits well with other Empire characters.

Glad to see they made him farmable, and since the shards are in the GW rewards section, people should be able to farm shards pretty quickly (assuming you aren’t already currently targeting a different character to farm GW shards instead).

Overall, while I don’t necessarily see Magmatrooper fitting well into every build, Magma’s synergies combined with a relatively good availability of shards seem to make this a pretty good addition for people looking for high health, tenacity, turn-meter control, or Empire builds.

  15. Magma is now farmable guys..

  16. Now that Magma trooper is now available in GW shipments we’re all chomping at the bit to see what he’s like maxed – if you get him there first be sure to post

  17. Does his listed Tenacity include his special ability?

    0
  18. I don’t complain about free stuff:) set him on the bench and see what they do with him.

  19. This pussy hits like a mosquito. I’m still going to work on upgrading him because it’s fun to upgrade new players, even if you never use them. Besides, based on the stats above, he might be a very potent attacker as long as you can protect his ass with powerful healers like Luminara Undies and Barris ‘take it’ Offee. Love those hoes. I might play around with him challenges, early levels of galactic war and when playing super easy old boards to gear people up. Still a one star at this point, like all my ratings, this will change as my guy improves.

    1
    • I noticed he has a 50% chance to damage another random target at level one built in- that’s kinda Dooku-esque. Too bad there is no way to upgrade that chance, that might be a game changer and make him really unique.

      0
    • Leveling all characters is important, since you don’t know who you’ll duel against.

      0
    • He’s now farmsble. And pretty decent.

      5
  20. One star for now… being stuck at two stars limits his potential too much…

When he’s farmable, MT will be GREAT with Luke: 100% Tenacity +60% Turn Meter for resisting effects… a Tenacity Squad build might be kinda fun

IF MT becomes farmable, then I’ll bump him to five stars

    😉

    1
  21. He looks like he would be great but, EA fucks it up and makes it a two star max right now.

    3
  22. Looks interesting to me in an Empire squad but can’t sink anything in to him until more shards are available. Love the AOE potential and turn meter effects though.

    3
  23. 5* Star rating is undeserved until farmable.
Power trumps skill in this PtW game (no bitterness, it’s just the way it is)

    1
  24. I’m just worried about his base attack. It doesn’t seem to do a lot of damage

    0
  25. Thermal detonation is so cool, shame that he isnt First Order, could have been a neat team w/ Kylo, Phasma, FO Stormtrooper and FO Tie Pilot or FO Officer

  26. How the heck did this website already figure out Magmatrooper’s full stats? I mean, by the end of this month the highest you can have is only a 2-star magmatrooper.

    0
  27. I’m F2P, what am I going to do with a 2 star, he will definitely not be worth putting anything into it

    0
  28. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t the Magmatrooper be classified as First Order and not Empire?
I’m not referring to the in-game class, I’m referring to Star Wars information.

    0
  29. Whoah, you already have his full stats! Excellent job, guys, as usual. I’m using this site regularly for guidance on swgoh and recommend on other forums.

Special with turn meter reduction looks impressive, same as HP. It looks like we’d be able to unlock the character for free by the end of the month as devs promised, BUT… only as a 1*, LMAO. EA at its best!

    0
    • No, you will be able to star him up to 2* and have yet another 5 shards towards 3*.
This, if you login everyday during March.

    • Phil Merberdine

You earn 30 shares in total 10 to unlock, leaving you with 20, use 15 to promote and he is actually 2 stars, not 1. You have 5 shares spare so that you can focus on promoting to 3* much easier.
